Larian Keeps Going
Most studios would have moved on by now. Larian Studios is not most studios. Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 8 has arrived, and it's another substantial update that adds meaningful content and quality-of-life improvements to an already exceptional game.
New Subclasses
Patch 8 introduces 12 new subclasses across multiple character classes, expanding build variety considerably. Highlights include the Oath of the Crown Paladin, the Bladesinging Wizard, and the Circle of Stars Druid. Each comes with full narrative integration, meaning dialogue and story moments acknowledge your subclass where relevant.
Photo Mode
It's finally here. BG3's photo mode lets players freeze the action and compose screenshots with adjustable camera angles, depth of field, lighting filters, and character pose controls. Given how visually stunning the game is, this addition is long overdue — and it's one of the best photo modes we've seen in an RPG.
Cross-Play
Patch 8 enables cross-play between PC and console for the first time, allowing friends on different platforms to adventure together. This is a significant quality-of-life win for co-op players who've been waiting for this feature since launch.
Bug Fixes and Performance
The patch notes run to thousands of words, but key fixes include:
- Resolved a long-standing Act 3 quest-breaking bug
- Improved frame rate stability on consoles during large combat encounters
- Fixed several dialogue flag issues that prevented certain endings from triggering correctly
- Memory optimisation on PC for systems with 8GB of RAM
Still Worth Playing?
Absolutely. Baldur's Gate 3 continues to be one of the finest RPGs ever made, and Larian's ongoing support only deepens that legacy. Patch 8 is a great excuse to start a new playthrough — or finally finish that one run you abandoned in Act 2.
