The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller arrives in a sleek, understated box — very Nintendo. Holding it for the first time, the jump in build quality over its predecessor is immediately obvious. The grips are deeper, the triggers have a satisfying click, and the overall weight feels premium without being fatiguing during long sessions.
Design and Build Quality
Nintendo has moved to a textured matte finish on the back grips, which dramatically reduces hand sweat during intense gaming sessions. The face buttons retain that iconic Nintendo feel — slightly clicky, tactile, and precise. The D-pad has also been reworked with a smoother pivot mechanism that makes diagonal inputs far more reliable, great news for fighting game fans.
HD Rumble 2.0
The updated haptic feedback system is one of the controller's standout features. HD Rumble 2.0 offers finer granularity, meaning developers can now simulate textures, impacts, and environmental effects with much greater nuance. Playing supported titles feels noticeably more immersive — the difference is subtle but real.
Battery Life
Nintendo claims up to 40 hours of battery life. In testing across a mix of handheld-adjacent wireless play and docked sessions, we consistently hit 35–38 hours before needing a charge. That's excellent. USB-C charging is fast, reaching full charge from flat in under two hours.
Connectivity
Bluetooth 5.3 ensures a rock-solid wireless connection up to 10 metres. Input lag is imperceptible in everyday use, though competitive players may still prefer wired mode via the USB-C port.
Verdict
If you own a Nintendo Switch 2, the Pro Controller is a worthwhile investment — especially if you game in docked mode regularly. It's not cheap, but the build quality, haptics, and battery life justify the price tag. Recommended.
